Minor League Hockey Finally Back In The Valley!!
Yes everyone, minor league hockey is finally back, and the Roadrunners no less! This Wednesday, February 2nd, there was an article in the Arizona Republic stating that Jerry Colangelo who already owns the Phoenix Suns, Mercury and Rattlers is starting Minor league team to play in the ECHL. He also went and obtained the rights from former Roadrunners owner Lyle Abraham, who owned the team from 1989-1997, to use the Roadrunner name and logo. Former Phoenix Coyote Claude Lemieux was names Roadrunners President. The Roadrunners will be playing on the Coyotes former rink at the America West Arena. They will be playing 36 home games at AWA when they begin play in October. Their goal is to get at least 5000 people to each game, which I don't think will be too much of a problem based on the fact that the NHL hasn't done too great a job winning their fans over as of late with the whole lockout going on, and the pending news of the entire season being cancelled. I know I would rather see the Roadrunners play. Tickets are already on sale for the 2005-2006 season, You can purchase that by calling (602) 462-4625. Look for more posts as I find out more info!
